James Wan was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. In October 2023, he pleaded guilty to one count of using a facility of interstate commerce in the commission of murder-for-hire. Wan was found to have conspired to have his girlfriend killed and was searching for help using the dark web. To avoid detection, he planned to use Bitcoin to pay for the hit job.
