Drug Dealer Busted With Narcotics, Gun After Selling To Undercover Cop
Corey Jacobs, a 26-year-old Joliet man, was arrested after a botched drug deal with undercover police at a McDonald’s on West Jefferson Street. Prosecutors say Jacobs sold cocaine to an officer for $160 while sitting in his ex-girlfriend’s car. When police attempted to arrest him, he fled the scene, driving recklessly and causing a multi-vehicle crash that injured five people. Emergency responders had to extract Jacobs and his ex-girlfriend from the burning vehicle. Inside the car, authorities found a loaded .556-caliber pistol, 17 baggies of cocaine, and 12 baggies of fentanyl. Jacobs was charged with armed violence, drug possession with intent to deliver, and aggravated fleeing. A judge ruled that he met the criteria under the SAFE-T Act for detention without pretrial release, citing both dangerousness and risk of flight.
